If I could convince every HYROX athlete to stop skipping one type of workout, it would be strength day.
Not because I love lifting weights.
Because I love seeing athletes stay healthy and continue improving.
Strength training is one of the most misunderstood pieces of HYROX programming.
Many athletes think it's there simply to make them stronger for the sleds.
It's much bigger than that.
Every HYROX race includes eight kilometers of running.
Thousands of foot strikes.
Hundreds of wall balls.
Heavy sled pushes.
Heavy sled pulls.
Carries.
Lunges.
Your body absorbs an incredible amount of stress.
Strength training prepares your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue to handle that workload.
It's not just performance training.
It's injury prevention.
One overlooked benefit of strength training is recovery.
When your body is stronger, every race station becomes a smaller percentage of your maximum capacity.
That means less fatigue.
Lower heart rates.
Quicker recovery between stations.
More energy available late in the race.
That's where races are won.
This surprises a lot of athletes.
Getting stronger often makes you a better runner.
Not because you're adding muscle mass.
Because you're improving force production, stability, posture, stride efficiency, and fatigue resistance.
Running isn't just cardiovascular.
It's mechanical.
The stronger your body becomes, the easier efficient running feels.
At Pinnacle Fitness, we don't randomly pick exercises.
Everything has intent.
Every movement is selected to improve something you'll need on race day.
Sometimes it's obvious.
Sometimes it isn't.
But every session fits into a much bigger picture.
That's what programming is.
Not random workouts.
A long-term plan.
Champions don't become champions because every workout is exciting.
They become champions because they consistently complete the work others choose to skip.
Strength day may never become your favorite day.
But it might become the day that changes your racing the most.
